This is definitely funny. People need to learn to lighten up. Those that are trying to paint this as racist are the ones that have the inability to view much aside from the color of somebody’s skin. These people have pretty much become the flipside of the racist coin – so much so that if anyone isn’t white it’s racist… especially is a company that makes cheap products makes something in their image. go away and lighten up.

For the record, I supported President Obama’s campaign and obviously voted for him. I was in tears of joy at yesterday’s Inauguration. That said, everyone needs to lighten up. This is America where pop culture items have a twisted sense of humor. When Mr. T had his own Chia Head, the product zoomed off shelves not because it was some effigy or minstrel item — because it was just plain old funny. Why is this any different from one of those tacky wall plates or those stupid coins? So are we to say that President Obama is off limits for anything humorous because he is African American? Think about it folks, it is just a Chia Head – and if Republicans or others end up buying it, so what? As for Amazon, a buck’s a buck! LOL.

Purchased this as a gift, and liked it so much I probably will pick one up for myself. It doesn’t make any difference if you are a supporter of the President or not — the fact that such a product is available shows that freedom of expression is still alive. If you want to look at this as celebrating the President, great. If you want to look at this as poking fun at him, well that’s fine too. I’m grateful that I live in a country where I’m free to make that choice.

OMG this is Hilarious! I don’t believe it. How insulting. If you let the chia grow he will have a huge fro! Honestly I think that the Chia Obama would do less damage to our freedoms and economy that the non-Chia version! I’m buying one so I can give it the finger for raising taxes on RYO tobacco 2100%!! Change you can believe in…yeah right!

Why are there people out there getting so excited over this particular Chia being racist? The Chia hair grows like an Afro? So what? It does look like an Afro. All the chias grow hair like an Afro. Even the one that looks like Albert Einstein. Was it the intention of this company to belittle the President by showing him with an Afro? Are all the Chia Heads racist? I don’t think so. Even Obama used to wear an Afro. Even Jan Brady of Brady Bunch experimented with an Afro on one episode. In the 70’s I even had an Afro of sorts, although I am white. This Chia Obama seems to be causing a lot of talk about racism, and disrespect for the President. I just don’t see it. And frankly I think when and if President Obama sees it, I think he will love it.
